What: Film screenings and live performance

When: Tuesday, February 24, 2026 2:00 PM

Where: Rotherham Minster, Church Street, Rotherham, S60 1PD

Who: Everyone, including young people and families

The event will feature 3 short documentary screenings from Sheffield DocFest about creativity all across the world, alongside a performance by local autism-led rock band ‘The Banned’. The screenings will be Jun, Stormskater and The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone.

The aim is to challenge preconceived notions of the capabilities of underrepresented artists, and allow people a chance to reflect and give opportunities to these groups. Hosted by the Rotherham Children's Capital of Culture trainees at Sheffield DocFest, the afternoon is dedicated to equal opportunities in music and the wider arts and the celebration of creativity in all forms. The event is free - book online at sheffdocfest.com/ccoc.

Please note: this event will be accessible for autistic and learning disabled people. It will be a ‘relaxed’ screening, with the lights up during performances, freedom to move around the venue and noise cancelling equipment provided. All are welcome to attend.

More film information:
- Jun (2021, directed by Sel MacLean, 6 mins)
Jun was a documentary filmed during lockdown. The film explores the ideas of Jun Rhee, a South Korean craftsman working in the North of England. Jun shares his view on the importance of hand made ceramics in today's society over factory made tableware.

- Stormskater (2021, directed by Guen Murroni, 6 mins)
Meet Ishariah Johnson, known as ‘Stormskater’ – a London-based roller-skater who started skating by picking up techniques from other skaters in different spots across the city. Now one of the most well-known skaters in the UK, Stormskater gives us insight into the sport and its community, as well as exploring issues of appropriation, ownership, authenticity, and the fundamental need for space.

- The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone (2022, directed by Maya Newell, 29 mins)
Georgie Stone is a trans actress best known for her role in the Australian soap Neighbours. Filmed over 19 years, in close collaboration with Georgie and her family, this landmark work follows Georgie from her early childhood legal battles with the Australian state to the present day as she fights on behalf of other trans teens. Extensive family archives, elliptical editing, and astoundingly intimate access show the pain experienced by trans kids navigating state bureaucracy, but also the power of collective action.
