National Year of Reading

National Year of Reading

When: Throughout 2026

Where: Nationally

Who: All ages

The National Year of Reading 2026 is a campaign to address the steep decline in reading amongst children, young people and adults. It is a Department for Education initiative, in collaboration with the National Literacy Trust as their delivery partner of the campaign. The National Year of Reading will position reading as a powerful contemporary activity, one which promotes equality of opportunity, aiming to engage new audiences in reading and to change the national reading culture for good.  You can sign up for updates and make a pledge on the Go All In website. We'd love you to get involved in whatever way that suits you, there are loads of opportunities, here are just a few ideas:

  • Follow us on social media and amplify the campaign to your networks https://www.instagram.com/go_all_in_2026/

  • Nominate a National Year of Reading Champion in your team or sign up to volunteer to become a literacy champion - email sarah.bird@ilteracytrust.org.uk for details

  • Think about ways literacy and reading are already embedded across your work and badge up existing activity with a book or reading theme in 2026

  • Sign up to your local library, or encourage your team/ audiences/customers/clients/networks to sign up

  • Build in 10 mins for reading for you/your team, set up a reading group, a community or workspace bookshelf, fundraise for a reading initiative

  • Make a pledge on the Go All In website so that we can capture and celebrate the range of activity that's happening across the country.

If you would like to discuss opportunities/ideas further please do get in touch with Sarah Bird, the regional lead for the North for the National Year of Reading.
