Family Workshop: Sunken Designs – Metal Embossing Swifts and Swallows
Sat 23 May, 12.30 – 1.20pm, 1.30 – 2.20pm, 2.30pm | Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet | £7.50, booking essential
Join Sheffield Museums for another hands-on creative session at the Hamlet this half term and have a go at embossing with metal.
Find inspiration by studying examples of taxidermy birds from the city’s museum collection and imagine the swifts and swallows currently nesting at the Hamlet. Then learn how to push and press your metal with tools to create a decorative item to take home with you, adorned with the beauty of the local area.
Suitable for the whole family to do together. All materials will be provided and no experience required.
Sessions run for 50 minutes. Please arrive at the start time of your ticket to ensure maximum time during the workshop. Please book a ticket for each child and each adult who will be participating in the workshop. All ticket holders will be creating a metal artwork each. All children need to be accompanied by an adult.

Join Sheffield Museums to try making, writing and sending postcards using the Caribbean Footsteps exhibition as your starting point.
In this hands-on creative session you’ll get help to collage your design and write about your experiences, ready to share with someone special!
Family Activity: Painting Stories

Have a go at drawing stories using paint and colour, all inspired by the new exhibition at the Graves Gallery, When the Day is Done: New Paintings by Ryan Mosley.
Fire your imagination and create characters and landscapes, weaving fiction and fact into artworks to take away with you.
Family Activity: Floating Boats

What makes a boat float? Find out about how to stop your ship sinking in this practical science-based session.
You’ll have a chance to best out different materials, experiment with a variety of supplies and design a vessel to ship weights across the water.
Family Workshop: Printing Patterns – Personalise a Tea Towel
Sat 30 May, 12.30 – 1.20pm, 1.30 – 2.20pm, 2.30 – 3.20pm | Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet | £7.50, booking essential
Have a go at easy print techniques and decorate a tea towel, inspired by the beautiful surroundings of the Hamlet.
Slow down and create something beautiful together in the calm and historic setting of Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet. In this hands-on family workshop, you’ll explore the grounds of the Hamlet, collecting patterns and outlines that will feed into your final designs.
You’ll be guided through the design process, transferring vibrant colours and shapes onto your fabric to make your design totally unique and you create something to take away and treasure.
