Edward II - Renaissance tragedy meets Mean Girls meets 80s slasher movie…:

Christopher Marlowe’s play takes place in the medieval court of England. It is a dramatized chronicle of events that happened in 14th century England and France. These are the struggles and battles between King, Edward his lover Piers Gaveston, and a court of antagonistic nobles, including Edward’s wife, Isabella of France. The lovers are chased across England, are captured, and meet a brutal end. Gaveston is beheaded, and Edward is famously murdered by being anally impaled with a burning iron rod.

De Nada’s adaptation draws on Marlowe’s narrative but is set in high school. A new boy, Piers Gaveston, arrives in the class, and popular boy, Edward, falls in love with him. The production is structured as a school day, every scene is a different lesson, and class by class, the couple fall deeply in love. Their relationship unleashes all kinds of jealousy and tension amongst their colleagues, which will meet its climax at the school disco.

De Nada would love local LGBTQ+ people to see the work and connect with people interested in a career in the arts. They can offer dance or writing workshops, backstage tours, and ticket discounts. They can also offer CPD workshops in using arts and creative practices to teach at secondary level. Topics include - gender diversity, creative methods in foreign language teaching, practical approaches to working with LGBTQIA+ youth.
