Children's theatre and storytelling
Suitcase Stories is one of our storytelling shows designed to unleash the imaginations of children in reception and Key Stage 1. The show was originally commissioned by Sheffield Theatres back in 2008 as part of their outreach programme to be performed in nurseries, schools, libraries and museums within the city. The show proved so popular that we still tour it to this day… well until Lockdown measures restricted our movement – even our flying carpet has been detained and is under quarantine.
Usually the show involves plenty of interaction where children are drawn into the performance by creating soundscapes and waves, becoming a royal army, discovering clever ways to hide their dancing fairies and organising a troop of troublesome monkeys. However, in these strange times of social isolation we have decided to make short videos of each story: one per week to help children, schools and families to share in the magic of stories in their own home/safe space. We hope that their responses to the story will still be full of participation even if we can’t be in the same physical space. But, perhaps, stories help us to share the same imaginative space by inhabiting a magical world together. We hope you’ll find that too.
Our follow up show, Trunk Tales, was performed just before lock down at Emmaus Catholic and C of E School in Sheffield. A treasured memory of our last live audience of excited young faces.
Watch Tell Tale Hearts' storytelling show, Suitcase Stories on our Facebook videos page. We hope it brings a bit of Yorkshire magic into your lockdown. Best enjoyed as a shared experience with your little one(s). Best suited to ages 3 - 6 years.
