Opportunity for arts and cultural organisations with experience of working in education

Create Sheffield

From September 2022, Create Sheffield will be working in partnership with Learn Sheffield to offer a year-long enhanced package of arts, creative & cultural support for Sheffield primary schools

This package will include:

  • Support to audit the arts, creative and cultural offer in school
  • Subject specific CPD in arts subjects
  • Curriculum guidance for middle and senior leaders from OfSTED inspectors
  • A bespoke project, delivered over the equivalent of 3 days, with a creative organisation or artist

We are looking for Sheffield-based arts and cultural organisations or freelance practitioners, with relevant experience of working in educational settings, to be included in this offer.

Deadline for expression of interest is Friday 22nd April midday. Complete this form in order to be included as a potential partner to one or more schools.

Your information will be included in an online brochure shared with schools this April/May 2022. The brochure will allow schools to compare the offers of different creative organisations, helping them to consider which would be most appropriate to meet the aims for their school.

What happens next?

  • The brochure will be complete and ready to send to schools by 29th April. If we have any queries linked to your information we will be in touch before then.
  • During Autumn 1 2022, schools will work alongside a Create Sheffield Producer who will help them to identify an appropriate creative organisation / freelancer to work with. We will update you on this process in September/October 2022.
  • Each project would be for the equivalent of 3 days delivery, between January and July 2023. We will be offering partners £1000 per-school, which includes 1 day of your planning time.

What if I do not have enough experience of working in schools?

At this stage, we want to offer schools the opportunity to work with arts and cultural organisations and artists who have already had experience of working with and in schools.  If you don’t have enough relevant experience then your work may not be chosen to be included in the school brochure at this time. Create Sheffield would like to offer you support to help build your skills and experience in the sector so that you can be included in our offer in future years.

Please contact us if you would like to keep in touch about Create Sheffield CPD/ support in this area.

What information will be included in the brochure?

The brochure will act as a short introduction to your work. It will include:

  • Links to your website and social media
  • A snapshot of your work (50-100 words)
  • An example of a successful project you have been involved in with a primary school in Sheffield (150 words)
  • The top three benefits or outcomes for schools and children of working creatively with your organisation
  • Up to 2 photos of your work, with permissions

How will the bespoke projects work?

We want to help schools understand the transformative power of the arts, so the aims of each project will be negotiated with each school and there will be flexibility in how the project is delivered. For example, one school may require subject specific support on teaching an aspect of the arts curriculum e.g. sculpture, so that’s what the arts/cultural partner would focus on

However, another school may be looking to support the emotional well-being of a specific group of pupils through an arts-based project, and so that’s what would shape the choice of arts/cultural partner and project they chose.

The idea is to remain flexible and reactive to the schools’ needs and allow you to offer your expertise in planning a bespoke offer in partnership with your school.

How does this benefit me?

We think this is a fantastic opportunity for arts and cultural organisations with experience of working in education to develop potentially long-lasting relationships with new schools. We know how difficult it can be to build trust with new schools and to develop these relationships.

These short projects will also offer you the chance to showcase your fantastic work within the context of the wider programme that schools will receive from Create Sheffield: subject specific CPD, subject network meetings, ofsted, curriculum and evaluation support.

We are able to offer you payment of £1000 per-school (£250 per-day and includes 1 day of your planning time).

Please note

We are happy to work with both organisations and individual freelancers but require safeguarding, DBS and Public Liability Insurance to be in place. Please also let us know if you think you would have capacity to work with more than one school.

We have a strict deadline for submissions as we need to get the brochure to schools in time for them to set their budgets for 2022-23. We must receive your form by 22nd April 2022.
