Closing date for applications is Monday 6 June midday 2022.
Create Sheffield has been awarded funding from IVE to deliver a new schools-based project in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield Museums which will enhance learning for children in the city. The aim of this pioneering project is to explore how place-based learning, within the context of a 15-minute neighbourhood, can build the cultural capital of children and young people.
It will focus initially on schools and local communities in Shirecliffe as a pilot to creating a Sheffield Curriculum extending in other parts of the city. The project learning will be linked to 3 other Local Cultural Education Partnerships within Yorkshire & the Humber, where similar collaborative projects are taking place that share the same objectives.
As a result of the project in Sheffield, there will be an expansion and localisation of the Create Sheffield pool of arts and cultural practitioners, and more opportunities for children and young people to define and engage with the culture on their doorstep.
The results of this pilot will influence the creation of the future Sheffield Curriculum. It will offer opportunities for professional development for teachers and trainee teachers and embed youth voice in both design and research of the Sheffield Curriculum Adventures.
- To explore how schools can interpret the concept of cultural capital within their local context and based on the needs of their pupils at 3 different Key Stage levels.
- To identify how cultural capital can be developed through place-based learning by undertaking a curriculum mapping process to create 6 Sheffield Curriculum Adventures.
- To examine how the history, socio-economic context, needs and resources of the locality (i.e., the 15-minute neighbourhood) offer opportunities for place-based learning through participatory mapping.
- To co-create a model for Sheffield Curriculum Adventures to integrate place-based learning within the curriculum based on the people, places, cultures, and knowledges of the 15-minute neighbourhood.
