Artsmark and Arts Award Update

Aoibheann from IVE

We asked Aoibheann from IVE to update us on the journey of the Sheffield Artsmark Consortium so far, and to share a little bit about the other great opportunities coming from IVE's Art Award programme.

Artsmark is the only creative quality standard for schools and education settings, accredited by Arts Council England, open to primary, secondary and special schools, pupil referral units, youth offending teams and sixth form colleges. The Artsmark Award supports settings to develop and celebrate their commitment to arts and cultural education and creativity.

We understand the many challenges education settings in our Sheffield Artsmark Consortium have faced in 2020 and are continuing to face as we head into 2021. We want to reassure them that we are here to continue to support them on their Artsmark journey, every step of the way. We appreciate there will be challenges to some settings’ Artsmark goals and ambitions as they welcome pupils back for the new year, with possible different priorities and stretched time and resources. We want to reassure settings that Artsmark is a flexible framework that can support and align with plans for recovery, and keep pupils’ creativity and wellbeing at the heart of their school. Artsmark is designed to be embedded in the curriculum and connect across all subject areas - a recovery curriculum need not be an exception, especially as concern for pupils’ wellbeing, mental health, confidence and voice is greater than ever.

Education settings in our Artsmark consortium group have now taken part in two peer network sessions exploring a range of themes and topics designed to strengthen provision, address challenges, inspire new ideas and develop new creative teaching strategies. These peer network sessions will continue until the end of the Summer Term.

Sheffield is home to an incredibly rich array of Arts and Cultural organisations who offer an excellent programme of opportunities for education settings. Throughout this journey, we will explore ways of connecting education settings in our Artsmark consortium group with Arts and Cultural providers who are Artsmark Partners and share ways of working together – hopefully developing meaningful, collaborative partnerships. Watch this Artsmark support Youtube video for more information.

You can also access information about the upcoming digital Artsmark training and support sessions for all Artsmark schools across the region at IVE.

Arts Award Update

Arts Award Discover at Home Activity Videos

Discover at Home is a fantastic way for families to keep engaged in arts and creativity with their children while they are at home! In order to support families to get started, we are very excited to launch our new Discover at Home series, full of fun, accessible and interactive videos which explore a whole range of different art forms and creative ideas.

All of these activities have been created by talented local artists and are designed for parents and carers to complete with younger children (aged 5-11yrs). You can check out our 22 Arts Award Activity Videos, along with written instructions on our website.

Arts Award Training

Trinity College have announced that all Arts Award Adviser training will be held online for the foreseeable future. The training is still delivered in the same levels: Discover & Explore; Bronze & Silver; Gold. Currently Trinity are not offering an equivalent to in-house training but IVE would be happy to support organisations who wish to train a group of staff. If you are an education setting and interested in training for Arts Award, we can cover the cost of one training place if a setting signs at least 3 staff up for online training. Please contact IVE for more information!

Arts Award Support

As part of our ongoing support package IVE is pleased to announce the dates of our upcoming free online support sessions. Our support sessions cover a range of topics from remote delivery to how Arts Award can support Artsmark. The sessions are led by Senior Arts Award Moderator, Iona Bailie, and more details can be found on our website.

We can also offer one-to-one support sessions with Iona Bailie for organisations planning on delivering for large groups. Just get in touch!
