Yorkshire Youth & Music

Yorkshire Youth & Music is a community music and arts education company working across the whole of Yorkshire. We improve the lives of young people in a range of very challenging circumstances through music and arts based opportunities.

We create bespoke music-making opportunities that change the lives of children and young people in very challenging circumstances across the region, including:

  • Children with special education needs
  • Young people in Youth Justice settings
  • Children with disabilities

We have expertise and a reputation for reaching the hardest to reach young people, and those in very challenging circumstances, working in partnership with schools, music services, community groups and other organisations and institutions who provide support and services to young people. You can find out more about the projects we run and the difference we make to young people's lives here.

Our work has been funded by Youth Music, the Arts Council, Children in Need, a variety of local Trusts and Foundations and by kind donations from individuals.

YY&M follows young people’s own musical aspirations and we employ the very best, multi-skilled music practitioners on our projects. We also offer training and support to adults who work with children and young people in a variety of settings and circumstances.

All of our programmes are created and developed to meet the needs of the participants, to discuss how we can support the outcomes for young people you work with please get in contact . We are able to build Arts Award certification into our delivery and can deliver CPD.

Our current projects include:

  • Mothers and their Babies in Secure Settings

Children of women who are held in secure facilities should be offered specific provision that supports their development as babies and toddlers... and that's exactly what our musical project achieves.

  • Music and Mental Health

Young people’s mental health is an increasing concern. Using music through our specifically designed project has proven to be a good way to connect with young people in a way that feels comfortable to them.

  • Young People in Youth Justice Settings

We run creative projects in Youth Justice settings that directly contribute to rehabilitation and encourage young people to live secure, meaningful and socially responsible lives.

  • Deaf Young People and Instrumental Learning

We’re making musical instruments accessible for deaf and hearing impaired young people around the region.
