Forced Entertainment

Forced Entertainment engages audiences and participants in compelling, inventive and provocative new theatre devised to reflect contemporary experience.

We run a range of participatory projects in Sheffield and beyond from one off workshops, teaching and mentoring to ongoing performance projects and ambitious large scale work. We work with artists to be and people who don’t identify as artists extending the reach of our practice and providing opportunities for high quality artistic engagement.

Art Breakers is our regular contemporary performance offer aimed at 11 - 15 year olds and run in partnership with Sheffield Theatre Deli. Art Breakers has been running since 2018 and is a space where young people can play with new ideas about performance – change the rules, experiment with stuff and try out their ideas.

You can apply to join Art Breakers through a simple application process or be nominated by a teacher, youth worker or local CYP organisation who knows you well. The group is currently full but we will be open to applications and nominations again in September 2020.

Subject to Change is our two-year performance programme working with young people and community partners to deliver ‘out of the ordinary’ performance opportunities for young people aged 11 – 19 year opportunities to learn about our practice, share ideas and make new work. We are partnering with Buzz Sheffield, Asperger’s Children and Carers Together (ACCT) and The Element Society.

We offer regular mentoring to artists and companies. Recent mentees include Lauren Bari Holstein, Idon’tloveyouanymore, Peter McMaster, Dobbleeganster (2020)
