Beth Guiver Storyteller
I deliver story and history workshops to primary schools across Sheffield, South Yorkshire and Derbyshire. After 20 years in the education sector as a teacher and performer, I now specialise in bringing myths, legends and folktales to life as immersive and interactive performances.
I include props, music, singing, call and response into every workshop for maximum fun and engagement to inspire creative engagement with history and the stories that have shaped literature since time began. The stories are inclusive and accessible for all and particularly help EAL and SEN children access the language and structure of great tales.
For primary schools I offer single, half day or full day workshops. I get invited in to deliver workshops on curriculum areas - so a storytelling workshop on Ancient Greek stories, Spring stories, African folktales, Viking myths etc
The storytelling performance is normally a 50 minute show with three stories, some artefacts and musical instruments, wordplay and call and response to help deepen listening and engagement as the performance develops. Often I extend the storytelling with drama and story play - using my skills as a qualified English and Drama teacher!
Schools invite me in for Christmas storytelling or World book Day and I then deliver to all classes depending on theme. I have worked with the Sheffield libraries on their holiday provision, for literary festivals such as Bradford and Newark, with Sheffield Theatres on a dementia and primary school project. I also work for Sheffield Museums on their history workshops for primary schools.
After the workshops children have helped take part in a re telling of a timeless story and are then really excited and inspired to create or write their own stories or develop the stories they have heard into another creative medium. It's magical to see!
