50 Things to Do Before You're Five, Sheffield

50 Things Sheffield

50 Things To Do Before You’re Five was developed at St Edmund’s Nursery School in Bradford. We believe that play-based learning is vital for children’s development, and know that so much is to be learned engaging in fun activities alongside parents and extended family.

We successfully bid for funding from Sheffield City Council to run a programme of training and engagement with migrant families and early years professionals in North and East Sheffield, sharing our experience gained whilst working alongside similar communities in Bradford. The plan included developing #50ThingsSheffield, using the local knowledge and lived experience of parents.

The arrival of COVID19, and the restrictions on bringing people together, resulted in a change to the timing of the programme and bringing forward the development of the 50 Things Sheffield website and free to dowload smart phone app, including an additional section on the website to illustrate how the play based activities can easily be extended to work with all the family. The new tab offers alternatives to the exciting visits available in Sheffield, with links to museum websites and ideas for home and garden.

The 50 Things are activities that are based on research and theoretical understanding of how children learn. More importantly perhaps, they are low/no cost, accessible to every child aged 0 to 5 across the city, and most important of all, they are great fun!!

We’re looking forward to working with families and partners engaged in early years, in schools, early years settings and across the communities of Sheffield.

Until we can draw together groups, we hope you’ll use the app, and would love to hear from you on our website and by linking to our Bradford Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, using the hashtag #50ThingsSheffield.
